Eau de Cologne
30 years of symphony concerts of Cologne New Philharmonic in the Kölner Philharmonie (1990-2020)

With its traditional symphony concert, this time on February 26, 2020 at 8 pm in the Kölner Philharmonie, the Cologne New Philharmonic undertakes a musical journey in her hometown through the cheerful world of musical jokes.
The Rhenish City of Cologne celebrates its famous annual carnival and the Cologne New Philharmonic plays a program with humorous works of classical and romantic music at the end of Ash Wednesday. It is also important to celebrate the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven. In addition, this is an anniversary concert. Since 1990, the orchestra, which has existed since 1972, welcomes its Cologne audience every year to the Kölner Philharmonie.

Inspired by this, the program begins with the overture to Gerhard Jussenhoven's opera "Eau de Cologne", which the composer from Cologne wrote about the history of Cologne's scented water. It follows W.A. Mozart's „A Musical Joke, the Divrtimento for 2 Horns and String Orchestra, with which the master made fun not just about performing musicians but above all about inferior composer colleagues. Following this, Beethoven's Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano, the great Triple Concerto, which is famous for its ardent passion, richness of sound and flourishing melodic variety.

After Beethovens sound poem “Wellington's Victory" or "The Battle of Vittoria" in the second half of the concert follows the funny parody of his third "Leonor Overture" and finally the musical burlesque "Carnival of Animals" by Camille Saint-Saëns in the sonorous Orchestral version with two pianos, which reflects the enchanting wit and humor of the composer like no other work.

In the French capital he celebrated with his works one success after another. The 'Zoological Fantasy‘ is a splendid example of the lively melody and the vocal humor of the composer.

Filippo Faes and Natascha Majer will perform at the pianos, and other soloists of the evening will be Aleksey Semenenko (violin) and Jadranka Gasparovic (cello).
Moderator, conductor and artistic director is Volker Hartung.

At the end of the concert, the young talented musicians will of course rekindle a festive firework of virtuoso encores.
The Cologne New Philharmonic promises once again this year an unforgettable concert experience.
